Introduction

Optic is a responsive Tumblr theme perfect for any blog type featuring the Masonry jQuery plugin. Showcase your artwork with complete focus on the post.

Optic comes packed full of jQuery awesomeness and shows your posts in all their glory. Pick colours for any part of the theme so you can fully customise it the way you want. Also pick your favourite font from the Google fonts library and add it in using the themes options panel. The themes only image is the logo and the images you post it’s completely CSS!

Installation

Now you've downloaded your copy of Optic you need to get it installed.

Open up the HTML file in your chosen text editor such as Notepad++ for PC or TextEdit for Mac which is already installed on your Mac.

Please note: There is an issue when opening HTML files in TextEdit, for the Mac, without setting it up first for the filetype. Follow this guide before opening it.

Once you've got it open make sure to copy everything in the file. If on a Mac press: CMD + A then CMD + C. If on a PC press: CTRL + A then CTRL + C.

Go to www.tumblr.com/dashboard and make sure your logged in to your Tumblr dashboard. Make sure you've got the right blog selected and click on the Customise Theme button on the right.

You'll now be on the theme customisation screen. The sidebar on the left is where all your options are and where to update the HTML for your theme. The screen on the right is a live preview of your Tumblr theme. Now what you're going to do is paste your new HTML over your existing HTML. Click the Edit HTML button underneath the themes thumbnail.

Set Up

Using the Mobile Version

Now you've got your nice new responsive Tumblr theme you want it to work on mobiles right? Well all you need to do is untick an option!

Follow the steps above to get to the customise theme screen and scroll down to the bottom where it says Advanced. Click on Advanced and more options will appear. Simply untick the 'Use Optimized mobile layout'. Hit save and now your theme will work on mobiles.

Google Fonts

With this theme you can use any Google Font you like! Follow these steps to installing your favourite font.

Head over to Google Webfonts and click Quickuse next to the font you want to use.

See below for the code you need to copy and paste into the Google Font Code text box in the theme options panel.

In the image below you'll see what you need to copy for the Google Font text box. Make sure to ignore the apostrophes.

Now you need to paste each element into the theme options panel.

DisQus Comments

To start using DisQus comments with the Optic Tumblr theme you need to have a DisQus account. So head over to the website and set up a new account or login to your existing account.

Flickr Gallery

To set up your Flickr gallery for the sidebar all you need is your Flickr ID number. To find your number head over to this website: http://idgettr.com/. Copy your ID number and paste it in the options panel.

Instagram Feed

To get your Instagram feed working you first need to allow Embedagram access to your Instagram profile. Head over to embedagram.com.

Log in using your Instagram details and then click on jQuery plugin.

This is where you'll find your Instagram ID.

Now you've got your ID copy and paste it in the theme options panel.
